POS Hardware: Which POS Hardware Do You Need? By Paul Michaels
POS systems are very important when you are running a retail store, a restaurant, a hotel or just any other business. However, choosing the right POS hardware that would work best for your business might be a challenge, especially if you aren’t sure on what to get.
POS hardware is comprised of a number of elements which work together to make billing receipts, to keep track of your inventory and to keep track of your sales. Here are some top elements which usually compose a POS system.
-
Cash Register – this mainly holds the cash. It usually automatically pops out whenever you finish a transaction so you can put money in and give change to your customers.
-
Display – Ranging from touch-screen displays or normal monitors, displays show everything that you need in your POS system. They show the total amount, the purchased goods and everything else.
-
Keyboard – For those without touch-screen displays, a keyboard is a must. It inputs every command into the system
-
CPU – It serves as a keeper of memory and records of all the transactions that your POS system takes. It is also where the inventory database is located.
-
Receipt Printer – Since you are required to give official purchase receipts for your customers, this allows you to print receipts in an instant after each transaction.
-
Debit/Credit Card Terminal – This allows you to accept credit cards or debit cards. Always check with various credit card companies about offering this service, as well.
-
PIN Keypad – This is a must, especially for those cards which require PIN inputs.
-
Barcode Scanner – This can be quite handy especially for supermarkets, clothing stores and others. It allows barcodes to be scanned and sent directly to the CPU to retrieve the SKU (stock keeping unit). It lessens the time of checking-out especially in stores which have a large database of products.
These POS hardware plays a big role in your POS system. Always remember that POS hardware must also come hand in hand with your POS software. The software will allow you to use your hardware to its optimum capability and help you run your business smoothly and more efficiently.
